About

What If The Miracle That Saved Your Life Came With a Cost, And The One Who Gave It Vanished Before You Could Ask Why?

Years ago, Derrick Holloway was dying.

Then his best friend, Telly D. Young, pressed a hand to his chest, and everything changed. Derrick lived. & from that moment on, he became the boy who wouldn’t break.

They say Derrick Holloway can’t be killed.

What they don’t say… is what it’s cost him.

In the small town of Alder Bend, Telly vanished without a word; Derrick was left behind with a dog, a cabin, and a silence that stretched for years.

And, Derrick’s no longer that boy. He’s a Navy SEAL. He’s a soldier who’s survived every bullet, every mission, and the nightmare. But something inside him has begun to unravel.

He walked out of fire. He walked out of war. But this time… the war is coming home!

Strangers are showing up in Alder Bend, men in suits with too many questions and eyes that don’t blink. They’re looking for Telly. For something Derrick’s been guarding without even knowing why.

And then, one night… the phone rings.

Telly’s voice, He’s in trouble. And he’s not alone.

As shadows close in, Derrick must stand between the world he loves and a war he can’t see coming. With a rifle in his hands, a dog at his side, and only his fierce faith to light the way, he prepares for what comes next.

Because some friendships defy wheel of time.

Some wounds never close.

And some wars… were never meant to be won.

Praise for this book

In this third installment of the Telly D. Brown series, Mr. Baldwin exposes the background of his character Derrick Holloway. This intimate look inside the friendship of two integral characters encapsulates the theme of this book.
After his friend Terry left to wander the countryside, the loss of his parents hit him hard, Derrick joined the Navy and eventually graduated from BUDs. He had become a US Navy Seal. He did his time, honorably, fought in numerous combat situations, proving himself to his teammates and his country. Then, one night, back at home, he received a call from his long lost friend…
The author uses great flashforward and back technique to queue between Terry and Derrick as their lives move forward through the narrative. The introduction of supernatural powers is used throughout to showcase Terry’s amazing abilities. This novel is a great stand alone and provides enough information to provide a great storyline, by itself, without having read the first two installments of the series.
The author’s use of line breaks within each of the chapters helps the transitions between the storylines and gives the narrative a quick and steady pace. It is well written and cohesive, with enough action to keep the reader’s attention throughout.
Not having read the previous books, I can say this was an excellent representation of the author’s ability to write independently from his other works. It is a great read and I recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend read that will keep the pages turning in anticipation of what is to come.

I read this as a stand-alone, and I couldn't put it down! This book was so good, and didn't make me feel like I had missed anything by not reading the books before it. From the first page to the last, it kept me guessing. I finished it in one day. I'll definitely be reading books one and two, and waiting to read book four. Definitely worth it if you like supernatural/military/thriller books. Because this book has all three of those genres wrapped in one!

The story was well written. I felt that it was easy to understand things. I read this as a standalone story and felt that I was not missing anything vital to the storyline. Great mystery and clean.
