This is classified as a Christian collection. I devoured this book collection in two days. One of the few books lately to keep me intrigued and wanting more. Would love to see the story continue. Book can be read by any age.

Friendship At Its Best Even In Absence

Review of ‘The Unkillable: One Gift, One Soldier, One War
The Derrick Holloway Story’ by James R. Baldwin © 2025

In this third installment of the Telly D. Brown series, Mr. Baldwin exposes the background of his character Derrick Holloway. This intimate look inside the friendship of two integral characters encapsulates the theme of this book.
After his friend Terry left to wander the countryside, the loss of his parents hit him hard, Derrick joined the Navy and eventually graduated from BUDs. He had become a US Navy Seal. He did his time, honorably, fought in numerous combat situations, proving himself to his teammates and his country. Then, one night, back at home, he received a call from his long lost friend…
The author uses great flashforward and back technique to queue between Terry and Derrick as their lives move forward through the narrative. The introduction of supernatural powers is used throughout to showcase Terry’s amazing abilities. This novel is a great stand alone and provides enough information to provide a great storyline, by itself, without having read the first two installments of the series.
The author’s use of line breaks within each of the chapters helps the transitions between the storylines and gives the narrative a quick and steady pace. It is well written and cohesive, with enough action to keep the reader’s attention throughout.
Not having read the previous books, I can say this was an excellent representation of the author’s ability to write independently from his other works. It is a great read and I recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend read that will keep the pages turning in anticipation of what is to come.

Worth the read!

I read this as a stand-alone, and I couldn't put it down! This book was so good, and didn't make me feel like I had missed anything by not reading the books before it. From the first page to the last, it kept me guessing. I finished it in one day. I'll definitely be reading books one and two, and waiting to read book four. Definitely worth it if you like supernatural/military/thriller books. Because this book has all three of those genres wrapped in one!

I picked up The Awakened Collection not fully knowing what to expect, but I was hooked from the very first chapter. This trilogy blends supernatural mystery with real human emotion in a way that’s both thrilling and deeply moving.

The central character—a boy burdened with miracles he didn’t ask for—feels so real. His journey isn’t just about saving others; it’s about the personal cost of carrying that kind of responsibility. The story moves seamlessly between heart-pounding suspense and quiet, reflective moments that make you question fate, faith, and the price of choice.

What impressed me most was how layered the narrative is. On one level, it’s a supernatural thriller full of action, danger, and impossible decisions. But beneath that, there are intriguing undertones about science, destiny, and even the ethical dilemmas of genetic engineering. It never feels preachy—the themes are woven naturally into the characters’ struggles.

By the end of the collection, I found myself not only entertained but also reflecting on how ordinary people face extraordinary challenges, and what it truly means to sacrifice for others.

If you enjoy stories like Stranger Things or Dean Koontz’s thrillers—but want something that goes even deeper emotionally—this trilogy is for you. Highly recommended.
